Green Building Company offers environment conscious and energy-efficient construction services to homes and projects in Yorkshire and the north west. The company incorporates two long-standing West Yorkshire construction companies, Slator Butcher Construction and Chris Herring Building Services. Green Building Company is a member of the Association for Environment-Conscious Building (AECB).

The change of name to Green Building Company reflects the way the business has been evolving over the last few years and the desire to concentrate and focus energies on the environmental construction side of things. According to Bill Butcher, Partner of Green Building Company, "Our reputation as environment conscious building professionals in the region has grown to such an extent that we are now able to make it the central focus for the company."

Green Building Company has the breadth of experience to cover small-scale renovations as well as larger projects and developments. Previous projects include the design and construction of the Longwood (Huddersfield) low-energy house, one of the most energy efficient in the UK. Featured in a number of technical publications, it was one of only four properties selected to pilot the Building Research Establishment's environmental assessment scheme (BREEAM). More recently, the company was involved in a two-year contract with the MERCi environment centre in Manchester, which has been commended for its environmental features and widescale use of reclaimed materials. The project also involved the company, for the first time, in the training and supervision of 16 New Deal building apprentices, a valuable experience which the company would like to build upon in the future.

Green Building Company is the sister company of Green Building Store, the UK-wide on-line and mail-order supplier of environmentally-sensitive building products, including Ecoplus System windows and doors; water-efficient WCs, urinals and taps; natural paints and finishes; boron timber treatments; water-based paint-strippers;  PVC-free galvanised steel guttering, and natural insulation products.
